This Southern saying relays to the recipient that they aren't bright. For example, "You ain't got the good sense God gave a rock." In other words, a stagnant inanimate object is smarter than you. While I've never uttered these words, because, let's face it, they're mean. I have heard it said about someone else.
After watching a recent interview with Geoffrey Hinton, the "godfather of AI," I am concerned that the unrestrained use of OpenAI and ChatGPT will result in the dumbing down of humanity. While I have some very good friends that rely on these platforms to assist with their work, and even author friends who use it to help with writing, I am stubborn and will not forfeit my creativity to a computer. I enjoy the puzzling process of creating and editing a project. The lengthy, mind binding exercise of attempting to communicate what is in my mind on the page activates my brain. It also leads to a feeling of great accomplishment. Please don't misunderstand what I am saying. I do not pass judgment or look down on anyone using this technology. However, it is not for me.
While I've made my fair share of mistakes in life, by God's grace, I believe I have grown wiser in learning from each one. And hopefully, I have more sense than God gave a rock.
