Can't Never Could - Sassy Southernism

Perhaps you’ve heard this phrase and scratched your head. Well, you’re in good company. This Southernism that begins with two negative words is Southerner’s way of emphasizing the importance of positivity. Translation: If you think you can‘t, you won’t. Thomas Edison modeled tenacious positivity when he stated, “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” Anything worth accomplishing is filled with trials and challenges. That’s why cultivating and maintaining a positive attitude is imperative to success. Believe in yourself and what God has created you to do. On Friday, I received a rejection email from a publisher. It was disheartening. I sulked. I prayed. I whined. Then I rallied myself, went to the store, purchased some plants, and worked in my garden. I also returned a call to a friend who has been instrumental in championing my work. Though the outcome didn’t change, my attitude did. So, I‘ll keep writing, and remember the little engine that could.
