The Practice of Waiting Quietly

We saw this Great Blue Heron on a bike ride through our neighborhood. I just had to shoot a video because I’ve never seen one this close. What strikes me is the contrast between the peacefulness of this majestic bird against the background sounds of kids in our neighborhood pool screaming. I’m reminded that even when everything around us seems to be screaming for attention, oftentimes the wisest thing we can do is wait quietly.

We are currently praying through some significant life decisions. My default mode is to try to figure things out in my own strength. Plotting and planning what seems to be the next logical step. I’m grateful for visual and audible reminders like this reel that reinforce the truth that I’m called to surrender my flawed, finite plans; the plans that make me want to scream in frustration when they don’t work out. Instead, I must choose to peacefully wait on God and trust that His perfect plan will be accomplished in His time, and He doesn’t need my help. 😉
