When Worship Brings Tears: Trusting God Through the Years

Do you ever get teary in church? On Sunday, at the close of the service, we sang the old song, “As the Deer.” I was gripped with the greatness of God as I realized the words mean as much to me today as they did when I first sang them over 30 years ago.

God is always faithful, even in our times of faithlessness. His love does not grow weary. His kindness cannot be exhausted.

As a naive teenager, I believed that following Jesus meant my life would go fairly smoothly. But it didn’t. And honestly, in some ways I’m glad it hasn’t. Through adversity I’ve learned to trust Him more, pray with greater faith, and follow more wholeheartedly. Disappointments meant to distract me from God, have instead driven me to my knees.

His grace alone makes my heart continue to sing:

“As the deer panteth for the water

So my soul longeth after Thee

You alone are my heart’s desire

And I long to worship Thee

You alone are my strength, my shield

To You alone may my spirit yield

You alone are my heart’s desire

And I long to worship You.” 🎶🦌❤️

We can always trust God to work all for the good of those who love Him.
